This course is for students who can read the Quran and want to recite it as it was taught: each letter with its right qualities, each rule applied, each stop in its place. It suits teenagers and adults, and anyone preparing to memorise.
What you study
- Makharij al-huruf
- The points of articulation of every letter.
- Sifat al-huruf
- The qualities of the letters, such as heaviness, lightness and echo.
- Noon sakinah and tanween
- Izhar, idgham, iqlab and ikhfa.
- Meem sakinah
- Its three rules and when each applies.
- Madd
- The kinds of prolongation and their lengths.
- Qalqalah, tafkhim and tarqiq
- Echoing letters, and heavy and light pronunciation.
- Waqf and ibtida
- Where to stop and where to begin again.
Learning with a scholar
Students who want the most careful teaching can choose one of our senior scholars, Dr. Uzma or Dr. Isra, who each have about 30 years of experience. Dr. Uzma holds an ijazah and knows more than one of the qira'at. Places with them are limited.
